The spirit of God style (Shinrei-kei) Shinrei means the spirit of God. In order to avoid being possessed by the above demon spirit, these masks were used to celebrate the conversion of the heart from malice to warmth and kindness. In addition it was used to represent the departed spirit and in a general way the power of the spirit which exceeds the mere power of the human. The Deigan mask is made to look like a dieing woman who is becoming a Buddhist saint. Also available are Zaou and Fudo style masks that were created from the faces contained in the scriptures of Zaou and Fudo. |
