Somempoo used for armor helmet The somempoo was a protective device that covers the entire face, and although it has been manufactured since the Nanbokucho period, it is not as popular as the cheek pad. Most of them were made by armourers in the Edo period to be proud of their skills. The entire surface is finished with black lacquer, and the hanging is a very elaborate one in which the ancient purple thread is threatened in four steps. |
